Abstract

In the presents we evaluated cytotoxic effects of the chloroform soluble fraction of metabolic extract of Perilla frutescens on human skin melanoma cells such as SK-MEL-3. The light microscopic study showed morphological changes of the treated cells. Damaging activity on cell membrane was measured by the lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) assay and disruption in cell organelles was determined by calorimetric method. These results suggest that the chloroform soluble fraction of metabolic extract of Perilla frutescens revealed a potential antitumor activity.
